Pattaya Beach, Koh Lipe 

Pattaya Beach is one of the three main beaches on Koh Lipe. The beach is home to the island’s main pier, making it both the first point of arrival and the final departure point from the island.

Pattaya Beach has a lively atmosphere both day and night. It’s also directly connected with Koh Lipe Walking Street, which  means you can easily walk to a range of restaurants, bars, shops, diving operators, and tour agencies.

In this article, I will help you to look at the location of Pattaya Beach on Koh Lipe, the map of the beach, things to do, and some of the best places to stay on this beach.

Where is Pattaya Beach, Ko Lipe?

Pattaya Beach is located on the south west coast of Koh Lipe. It is home to the island’s main pier and is directly connected to the Walking street of the island. It is around 1km west of Sunrise Beach and 500m south of Sunset Beach.

What’s on Pattaya Beach Ko Lipe?

Pattaya beach is a 1.2km long crescent shaped beach with white fine sand and crystal clear water. The beach is a great place for popular water activities such as swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.

The beach is lined with resorts, restaurants, and bars. It’s home to a couple of piers (operated by different boat companies), a diving center, and an immigration office.

Koh Lipe Pier

Koh Lipe Pier is an important point on Pattaya Beach and Koh Lipe island. It’s located right at the middle of the beach, in front of The Steak House Koh Lipe, and at the beginning of the Walking Street.

This pier has speed boat connections between Koh Lipe with other islands in the Andaman Sea of Thailand such as Phuket, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Ao Nang, Raily, Koh Yao Yai, and Koh Yao Noi. You can also catch a boat to nearby Langkawi island in Malaysia.

You can book tickets online at 12go.asia or at many travel agencies on the Walking Street. Boat companies such as Tigerline Travel, Satun Pakbara Speed Boat Club.

If you book a ticket online, there might not be an option for a car transfer from your destination pier to your hotel. If you want a combo ticket, it’s best to book at local agencies with an additional fee of 100-200 baht for the transfer.

The pier is home to a small blue floating pier, and is surrounded by long tail boats and speed boats. The speed boats to the big islands. Long tail boats belong to local fishermen. You can hire these small boats to get to nearby islands such as Koh Adang for a day trip.

Bundhaya Pier

This pier is located on Pattaya Beach of Koh Lipe, in front of Bundhaya Resort. It’s around 250m east of Koh Lipe main pier and the Walking street. As its name suggests, Bundhaya Speed Boat operated on this pier.

You can book a boat from this pier to Langkawi island of Malaysia, Pakbara Pier in mainland Satun, Tonsai Pier on Koh Phi Phi, Saladan Pier on Koh Lanta, or Rassada Pier in Phuket.

A tip: If your resort is along Pattaya Beach, it’s good to inform your hotel if they can transfer your suitcase to the resort from the pier. The beach is only 1km long, but there is no proper road along the beach, and you don’t want to drag the wheel on the sand. A backpack would be ok to walk with though.

The Satun Immigration Office is located around 140m from Koh Lipe Pier (next to the Walking Street) and around 350m from Bundhaya Pier (next to Bundhaya resort). 

If you’re arriving from neighboring Langkawi island, you need to have your passport checked at the immigration counters first. If you arrive from other islands of Thailand, you can skip this checkpoint. You also need to pay an entrance fee of 200 baht as Ko Lipe is part of Tarutao National Park.

When I arrived at Pattaya Beach from Krabi Town, the Satun Immigration Office appeared quite busy, with long queues of people waiting for their passport stamps.

Pattaya Beach is lined with restaurants, bars, resorts, and diving centers. There are facilities such as umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach, often belonging to the beachfront resort. 

The beach is quite wide at low tide. You can find some shade at the area near the resorts and restaurants on the shores. The long tails boats can be found along  the boat with high concentrations at the middle section of the beach.

Things to do in Pattaya Beach, Ko Lipe

With white sand and crystal clear water, Pattaya Beach is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The beach has shallow water which is also safe for kids to swim. Popular spots for swimming are on the end sides of the beach away from the piers where speed boats and long tail boats dock.

It’s also a great place to stroll along the beach, people-watch, admire the crystal-clear water, and watch the boats come and go.

If you like snorkeling, check the two ends of the beach, on Daya Beach resort side and Bundhaya Beach resort side. These areas are usually less crowded than the middle section and perfect for snorkeling.

Watching the sun go down on Pattaya Beach is one of the best things to do on Koh Lipe. From late afternoon, many restaurants and bars set tables and chairs on the sand. So, you can enjoy the sun going down, and have a deciduous dinner on the beach.

In terms of sunset, you can also check out North Point Beach and Sunset Beach for a different atmosphere. North Point Beach is often packed with people during sunset time.

Pattaya Beach offers the most vibrant nightlife of all the island’s main beaches. Other places, such as Sunrise and Sunset Beach have a quieter atmosphere at night.

Sanom Beach is a small secluded beach located next to Pattaya Beach. You can walk to the beach via a wooden bridge from Daya Beach resort area to Sanom Beach.

The beach is in front of Sanom Beach Lipe Resort. The beach is super quiet and cozy with one restaurant on the beach, you can rent sunbeds from them. 

There are often just few people on the beach and there are no long tail boats there, so you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, away from the crowds and the noise of the boats.

You can swim, sunbathe, or snorkel at Sanom Beach. You can also consider staying at the beautiful  bungalows  at the resort. You can walk for around 10-15 minutes along Pattaya Beach to the walking street for shops and restaurants.

If you’re interested in diving or snorkeling, you can book a course at one of the several diving schools on Pattaya Beach and around the island. Whether you’re a beginner or want to get a PADI certificate, these diving schools offer a variety of options for you.

Places like Pura Vida Diving Koh Lipe Dive Center have great reviews from google. You can also ask your resort to book the course for you.

Checking out the Walking Street

The Walking Street is the nightlife heart of Koh Lipe and is packed with restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s located right next to Pattaya Beach, which is very convent for those staying in this beach. You can take a short walk to all tourist amenities.

Some of the island’s best restaurants and bars are located in the Walking street. Popular places to eat in this area are Papaya Mom Restaurant, Elephant Bar and Restaurant, or Thaidurm Restaurant.

Taking a long tail boat trip to Koh Adang or nearby islands

Koh Adang is the neighboring island of Koh Lipe and is a popular day trip from Ko Lipe. You can easily take a visit to Koh Adang by taking a boat from any main beaches of Koh Lipe such as Pattaya, Sunrise, and Sunset Beach.

Sunrise and Sunset Beach are closer to Koh Adang, but if you don’t want to travel to these beaches when staying in Pattaya Beach, you can take a boat taxi from Pattaya beach. It’s a 20 minute boat ride from Pattaya Beach in Koh Lipe to the main beach south of Koh Adang.

On Koh Adang, you can do some hiking and simply relax, swim, and snorkel at its peaceful beaches. The Chado viewpoint offers stunning views of Koh Lipe and its crystal clear water. The hike to Pirate waterfall is also well worth checking if you like hiking in the middle of the thick jungle.

Stay at a resort on Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach is packed with resorts. It’s convenient for location for easy access to the walking street and to the pier. The beach itself is also stunning with fine white sand and crystal turquoise water.

If you want to be in the heart of the action, it’s worth it to book a resort on Pattaya Beach. It’s one of the most popular areas to stay on Koh Lipe, so make sure to book well in advance.

Best Hotels in Pattaya Beach, Ko Lipe

Mali Resort Pattaya Beach Koh Lipe

This is a beautiful resort on Pattaya Beach, in a great location at one end of the beach. It’s quieter but still close to the beach, the walking street, the piers, and all tourist amenities. 

The beach section near the hotel is great for snorkeling. You can rent snorkeling equipment at the resort with a small deposit to do it. 

The resort offers a la carte breakfast and an onsite restaurant on the beach. There are sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach for guests. You can book the bungalows with a beach view for best experiences.

Sita Beach Resort

This is a large 4-star beachfront resort, located on Pattaya Beach. The resort has an outdoor swimming pool, kid playground, and an onsite restaurant with ocean views. It is surrounded by green trees. There are plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds on the pool and along the beach.

Rooms at Sita are spacious and the resort serves a breakfast buffet. Some rooms are located on the hillside area, so if you don’t want to walk up and down stairs to the room, you can book a room at the lower part. The hillside room offers stunning views though.

This beachfront hotel is located on Pattaya Beach, a short distance from the walking street and the piers. The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool located next to the seafront. Good quiet place to stay in Pattaya while still close to the action.

Bella Vista Beach Resort Koh Lipe

Bella Vista is a 3-star beachfront resort situated right on Pattaya Beach, in a quite central area of the Beach. It’s only around 5 minutes walk to a range of tourist amenities on the Walking Street.

You can book ocean view rooms for the best experience. The resort has sunloungers on the beach and a lovely beachfront restaurant and bar. Staff can help transfer the suitcase upon your arrival and departure.

This eco-friendly 3-star resort is set in a prime location along Pattaya Beach. You can experience staying in traditional bamboo cottages with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. They have big rooms for families or a group of friends.

The resort is steps away from Pattaya Beach where you can swim, sunbathe, or snorkel. The popular street with tourist amenities, 7-11, and minimarts are within a short walking distance away.

This mid-range resort is located on Pattaya Beach, offering direct access to the beach and spacious rooms. It has great amenities such as multiple bars, pools, restaurants, a fitness center, and an in-house massage room. It’s a good overall place in Pattaya Beach due to its central location, and excellent facilities.

Bundhaya Villas

Bundhaya Villas is located at one end of Pattaya Beach, offering a quiet atmosphere but easy access to all major tourist amenities on the walking street. It’s also easily accessible to the pier and has a great view of the beach.
