What’s on Loh Lana Bay?

Loh Lana Bay is 500 long beaches, surrounded by the hill on two sides. The beach has crystal clear, shallow water and white grain sand. It’s a good spot for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. There are some shaded areas along the shore, but there are no umbrellas, sunbeds, or beach bars on the beach.

The beach has a different atmosphere at high tide and low tide. At low tide, the water goes very far, and you can walk along the western end of the beach to reach a small fishing village then climb over a small hill to Nui Beach.

If you walk along the shore to Nui Beach at high tide, make sure to wear good water shoes, as the rocks on the seabed are very sharp and can cut your feet.

Behind Loh Lana Bay, there is an abandoned resort, and the area is cluttered with construction debris and rubbish dumps. I walked past the resort to the beach, and I felt a somewhat sinister atmosphere.

Rubbish

During my visit, I didn’t see much rubbish along the shore at high tide, just a few small piles of waste from local fishermen. However, the beach may get washed with plastic and debris during the wet season.

How to get to Loh Lana Bay?

There are three main ways to reach Loh Lana Bay, which includes walking, taking a long tail boat ride, or kayaking. Walking and kayaking are ideal for those who want physical activities. Most parts of Koh Phi Phi are connected to each other by roads, either paved roads, jungle trails, and coastal paths. So if you are an active traveler, you can reach Loh Lana by walking and hiking.

It’s an easy walk on a flat road from Loh Ba Kao and Laem Tong Beach to Loh Lana. It takes around 20-40 minutes walking.

From the main areas of Koh Phi Phi such as Tonsai Pier, Tonsai Village, Loh Dalum, or Long Beach, you can walk to Loh Lana for around 1 hour. You can choose the challenging trail via Viewpoint 1,2,3 or the easier trail via the coastal trail north of Loh Dalum Beach.

The coastal trail is flatter but only doable at low tide. The trail via viewpoint 1,2,3 involves lots of steep stairs and can be done anytime during the day. Avoid walking at night for your safety.

Long Tail Boats

You can take long tail boats at any beaches around Koh Phi Phi to get to Loh Lana Beach. The private boat ride is quite expensive though, so it’s better to share it with a group to save money.

If you are at Tonsai Pier, Tonsai Village, or Long Beach, I recommend walking to Loh Dalum then taking long tail boats from there to get to Loh Lana. This is because Loh Dalum is closer to Loh Lana, and you can save time and money by taking a boat ride from Loh Dalum.

The one way private boat ride between Loh Dalum and Loh Lana is around 20 minutes and costs 600-700 baht. You can also consider taking a guided group tour around the island which stops at Loh Lana, which allows you to visit all beaches at a lower price.

Kayaking

Many people enjoy kayaking from Loh Dalum and Monkey Beach to Nui Beach then Loh Lana Bay. If you’re physically fit, you can choose this option. It’ll take around 40 minutes to kayak from Loh Lana to Nui Beach, and 20 minutes from Nui beach to Loh Lana.

Where to stay in Loh Lana Bay?

As I mentioned before, there are no hotels, resorts, or any beach facilities on Loh Lana Beach. If you want to stay in this part of the island for a quiet beach holiday, you can consider staying at nearby Loh Ba Kao village and Laem Tong Beach.
