Where is Laem Tong Beach, Koh Phi Phi?

Laem Tong Beach is around 1km long Beach located on the far north east coast of Koh Phi Phi Don island. It’s around 1 hour walk or 30-45 minutes boat ride from main areas of Koh Phi Phi such as Tonsai Bay, Tonsai Village, or Loh Dalum Bay.
Laem Tong is a remote beach with some resorts, beach bars, and restaurants. The closest village with some tourist amenities to Laem Tong is Loh Ba Kao Village, located 2km away. You can walk for around 30 minutes or take a motorbike taxi ride for 10 minutes to travel between Laem Tong and Loh Ba Kao.
What’s on Laem Tong Beach, Koh Phi Phi?
Laem Tong is a 1km long beach, with white fine sand, crystal clear water, and many shaded areas along the shore. The beach overlooks the smaller islands such as Mostique island and Bamboo island.
Laem Tong Beach is difficult to access, only by long tail boats or a long hike, so it has a laid back atmosphere with way less people than the main village and Tonsai Beach.
Resorts

The beach is lined with a handful of high-end resorts with their onsite facilities such as restaurants, bars, massage parlors, and umbrellas and sunbeds. From south to north of the beach, you will see Phi Phi Holiday Resort, P. P Erawan Palms Resort, Zeavola, Outrigger, and Phi Phi Natural Resort.
Restaurants & bars

Most restaurants on Laem Tong belong to beachfront resorts. You can find Sawasdee Restaurant PP. Erawan Palms Resort, Malee Seafood, and Jasmin Restaurant located next to a small Mini Mart, at the middle section of the beach.
These places have tables and chairs set out on the sand. They are usually open from 10am to 10pm, so you can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner here.
The food at the independent restaurants such as Malee and Jasmin are generally more delicious and cheaper than the onsite restaurants in hotels.
The family-run Chili and Pepper at the southern end of the beach is also a good place to check out for authentic local food. It’s a couple of minutes walk from the Holiday resort.
Minimarts

Unlike other main villages and some other popular beaches, Laem Tong has a remote atmosphere and isn’t packed with convenience stores or shops. There is a small minimart at the central area of the beach where you can buy daily essentials and snacks to the beach.
If you want more minimarts and shops, you can walk from 30 minutes along the beach road to get to the nearby Loh Bakao village. You can take a motorbike taxi for 5-10 minutes drive and 100 baht.
Long tail boats

Like all beaches around Koh Phi Phi, there are numerous long tail boats and speed boats pack on Laem Tong Beach. It still has a quieter atmosphere and is less crowded than in the main area of Phi Phi such as Tonsai bay.
You can rent long tail boats to get to Tonsai Village for nightlife, for more food and shopping options. There are also boats to Maya Bay in Koh Phi Phi Leh and the nearby Bamboo island and Mostique island for snorkeling and diving.
Diving centers

There is a PADI dive center, Leisure Dive Center, located right next to PP. Erawan Palms Resort. You can easily book a tour or diving course with them. There is a good chance to see black tip sharks, and unique sea creatures.
Sunbeds and umbrellas

There are sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach but most of them belong to the beachfront resorts and for guests to use. You can bring your towel to the beach, and there are many shaded areas along the shore.
Things to do in Laem Tong Beach, Koh Phi Phi
Relaxing, Swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling

The beach has a peaceful atmosphere, fine sand, stunning views, and crystal clear water, which is ideal for swimming, relaxing, strolling, or enjoying the views.
The water is shallow, so it is safe to swim in. There are designated swimming areas, so you don’t have to worry about hitting the long tail boats. The rocky area Phi Phi Natural Resort at the northern end of the beach is a good spot for snorkeling.
Boat trips to Mosquito Island or Bamboo island

Mosquito Island or Bamboo island are two small islands located 5km in front of Laem Tong Beach. You can easily book a long tail boat tour to get to these secluded islands for more snorkeling and viewing opportunities.
Walk to Loh Ba Kao Village

Loh Ba Kao Village is located 2km south of Laem Tong Beach. The hippy village has a good range of restaurants, shops, a beautiful bridge and mangrove forest to explore.
Walk to Loh Lana and Nui Beach

Loh Lana and Nui Beach is located within 30 minutes walking distance from the south of Laem Tong Beach. These small beaches have a secluded atmosphere with beautiful views of limestone cliffs.
During day time, you can walk to Loh Lana, and at low tide, you can walk along the shore of Loh Lana to get to Nui Beach. Nui Beach, in my opinion, is one of the best beaches on the island, with no resorts on it. Loh Lana has a resort by the beach, but it was abandoned when I visited.

This is a large resort complex occupying a big portion of the southern part of Laem Tong Beach. It’s an ideal place for those who want a peaceful beach holiday away from the chaos and nightlife in Tonsai, the main village.
The resort has a swimming pool, onsite bar and cafe and stunning views of the sea. There are sunbeds and umbrellas along the beachfront and the swimming pool area.
PP Erawan Palms Resort

This is one of the 4 big resorts on Laem Tong Beach, located in the central area of the beach. The resort has direct access to the beach and is surrounded by greenery. Like many other resorts on the island, it has a nice outdoor pool and an onsite restaurant/ bar.
You can choose to stay in charming bungalows with the beach view for the best experience. The rooms are spacious with wood and traditional Thai architecture.
Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort
This is a luxury 5-star resort on Laem Tong Beach. If you want something high end on the beach, this is an excellent choice. Outrigger offers excellent service, a beautiful pool and guest rooms in a stunning natural environment.
Phi Phi Natural Resort

This 4-star beautiful resort located at the northern tip of Koh Phi Phi Don island, offers easy access to Laem Tong Beach and has its private beach. It’s a beautiful ground with lots of trees, a lake, and a swimming pool.
How to get to Laem Tong Beach, Phi Phi island?
From Tonsai Pier, Tonsai Village, and Loh Dalum

Most speed boats from other islands on Andaman Sea such as Phuket, Koh lanta, Ao Nang, Railay will arrive at Tonsai Pier. From here, you can ask your hotel in advance to arrange the boat in Laem Tong to pick you up or rent a long tail boat to get to your hotel in Laem Tong when arriving at Tonsai Pier.
You can rent a private long tail boat for 1000-2000 baht per way depending on the time of the day. It’s more expensive in the evening.
There are ferries and speed boats of Andaman Wave Master running between Phuket and Laem Tong, stopping at Tonsai Pier. The ticket is 300 baht, the journey is 30-45 minutes depending on speedboat class or standard class.
The boats run a few times a day. The boat’s schedule from Phi Phi Tonsai Pier to Laemtong is 9:40 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:00 PM. You can book a ticket from the official website, or ask your hotel or local agencies to help with the booking.
From Long Beach to Laem Tong Beach
From Long Beach, you can rent a long tail boat to Laem Tong. The boat ride is around 45 minutes. The ticket is 1000-2000 baht depending on time of the day. It’s more expensive after dark.
You can also take an around 20 minutes walk to Tonsai Bay for scheduled boats of Andaman Wave Master to get to Laem Tong for cheaper prices.
From Loh Bakao Beach to Laem Tong Beach

Loh Bakao Beach and village is located 2km south of Laem Tong. From this area, you can walk for 30 minutes to get to Laem Tong. There are also motorbike taxis that take you to Laem Tong for 100 baht for around 10 minutes.
