Khao Kalok Beach & Viewpoint, Hua Hin

Khao Kalok Beach is a tranquil beach located midway between Hua Hin and Phraya Nakhon Cave. The beach is known for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful beach road, and viewpoint.

In addition to the more popular Hua Hin Beach, Suan Son, and Khao Tao Beach in the north, Khao Kalok Beach is well worth a visit for its local atmosphere and peaceful vibe. You can combine a visit to Khao Kalok when visiting Phraya Nakhon Cave or Pran Buri Forest Park.

In this article, we will look at some information about Khao Lok, a lesser known beach near Hua Hin. I will also share how to get to the beach, things to do, and some of the best hotels near Khao Lok.

You can check out more about Hua Hin in these articles:

Where is Khao Kalok Beach?

Khao Kalok Beach is a secluded beach located south of Pranburi Beach and north of Sam Roi Yot Beach. This beach is around 30km south of Hua Hin City Center and 25 km north of Phraya Nakhon Cave.

The beach has fine white sand with clean and calm water. It is a great place for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying watersport activities such as kite surfing.

The southern end of the beach is next to a tall limestone mountain (Skull Mountain). At low tide, you can walk along the beach to reach the viewpoint and hike to the more secluded Khung Sai beach.

The locals know more about Khao Kalok Beach than the tourists. My hostel’s owner in Hua Hin recommended this place to me. It is a good stop when visiting Phraya Nakhon Cave from Hua Hin on a scooter. The best way is to detour the ride on the highway to the Beach Road for the better scenery.

How to get to Khao Kalok Beach?

I got to Khao Kalok Beach by a rental scooter and I believe that it is the best way to reach Khao Kalok Beach. If you don’t drive, you can consider hiring a private driver for a few hours.

To save money, the best way is to combine the trip to Phraya Nakhon Cave and Khao Kalok in a single trip. You can hire a private driver to Phraya Nakhon Cave and ask him to drive along the Beach road and stop for an hour or two at Khao Kalok for exploration.

If you rent a scooter, it is around 200-300 baht per day, which is the cheap way to explore Hua Hin and its surrounding beaches and attractions. Renting a scooter gives you more freedom to go wherever you want.

Grab and Bolt might not accept the ride from Hua Hin to Khao Kalok Beach as it is quite far away. These apps are easier to get a driver for a short ride. But you can try, you might be lucky to get a driver except your request.

Things to do on Khao Kalok Beach?

Swimming

The beach has fine sand, clean water, and no rocks in the water, which is good for swimming. You can bring your own beach mat, your rent bedchairs at the beach.

There are several beach vendors on the beach where you can order food and drinks from them. You can find several street food stalls and restaurants on the road running parallel with the beach.

Kitesurfing

Like many other beaches in Hua Hin region, Khao Kalok is a good beach for kite surfing. I saw lots of kite surfers when I visited the beach in late afternoon in December.

If you like kite surfing or into adventure, you can consider taking a kitesurfing lesson on the beach or rent surfing equipment at the rental shops near the beach.

Relaxing, watching the sunrise and sunset

Khao Kalok Beach can be visited at any time of the day but the most popular times are at sunrise and sunset. The golden sky in the early morning and late afternoon makes the beach more beautiful.

Lots of people come to the beach to just chill on the sand, or take a long walk along the shore. The areas near the cliffs have a nice atmosphere to take photos and avoid the winds.

Khao Lok Viewpoint offers stunning views of the coastline below. You can reach the viewpoint by walking from the beach at low tide or from the road.

Both routes have clear signs showing direction to Khao Lok Viewpoint. You can walk up and down at the same trail, or walk up from the beachside then down to the road side to experience both trails.

Hike to Koung sai Beach

Koung Sai Beach is a hidden beach located around 1km south of Khao Lok Beach. You can reach this beach by walking along the coastal road. The trail is narrow with some rocky dangerous sections and some nice parts into the jungle.

There are some wooden stairs, and ropes support walkers along the way. It is around 20-30 minute hike from Khao Kalok Beach to Khung Sai Beach. It was fine hiking the trail alone, but it is best to have companions with you and avoid hiking in the dark.

Koung sai Beach has a tranquil atmosphere with just one or two people on the beach at times. It is a rocky beach with lots of big red rocks along the shore. It is a nice place to relax and enjoy the sunset.

The Beach Road stretches for around 10 km from Sam Roi Yot Beach in the south to Praburi Beach in the North. Along this route, you can stop at Khao Kalok Beach, Khao Kalok Temple, Fisherman’s Pier viewpoint, and Pran Buri Beach night market.

This is a small local temple located on the Beach Road between Sam Roi Yot Beach and Khao Kalok Beach. You can have a quick stop at the temple to have a look while driving on this road. The temple has beautiful architecture and was under construction during my visit in late 2024.

Where to stay in Khao Kalok Beach?

There are fews resorts and hotels along Khao Kalok Beach and the Beach Road. If you want a quiet beach holiday, you can consider staying in Khao Kalok for a couple of nights or more. Here are some of the good places to stay in Khao Kalok:

Tolani Le Bayburi Villas

This resort is located on the Beach Road along Praburi and Khao Kalok coastline. The resort is located right on the beach, and houses a pool and luxury rooms. It also offers car rental, tour services, laundry, and massage onsite.

This is a nice resort located on the beach of Pranburi Beach and Khao Kalok Beach. The resort has beautiful ocean views, an outdoor swimming pool, and family-friendly rooms.
