I had a wonderful time in Koh Kood. It is one of my favorite islands in Thailand. In this article, I will show you how to get to Koh Kood from Koh Mak, Koh Chang, Bangkok, and Pattaya. I’ll recommend some of the best ways to get around the island.
Koh Kood is located in the Gulf of Thailand, close to the Cambodia border and other beautiful islands such as Koh Chang and Koh Mak. This island offers pristine beaches and serene atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for travelers looking for a peaceful getaway.
To get to Koh Kood from the mainland, you will need to get to Laem Sok Pier in Trat first, then take a ferry/speed boat to Koh Kood. If you are already in Koh Chang or Koh Mak, you can easily get a direct ferry/boat from these islands, especially in the high season.

How to get to Koh Kood from Koh Mak
There are direct ferry/speed boats between Koh Kood and Koh Mak, especially in the high season. The journey typically takes about 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the type of boat and sea conditions.

I traveled from Koh Mak to Koh Kood in December with the Boonsiri Ferry. I booked a boat ticket at a tour agency on Walking Street on Koh Mak. You can book it online at their website boonsiriferry.com.
The ticket includes a boat ticket from Ao Nid Pier on Koh Mak to Ao Salat Pier on Koh Kood and a transfer from Ao Salat Pier to any hotels/resorts on Koh Kood. I need to book a taxi from my hotel to Ao Nid Pier though (only 50-100 baht).

In addition to Boonsiri Ferry, you can book your ticket with other boat companies such as Koh Kood Express or Seudamgo. If a boat is not running between Koh Mak and Koh Kood in the rainy season (mid- May to October), you will need to get back to the mainland Trat, to get another boat to Koh Kood.
How to get to Koh Kook from Koh Chang

To get from Koh Chang to Koh Kood, I recommend using Boonsiri Ferry services. They offer a combo ticket which includes a pick up from any hotel in Koh Chang to Bang Bao Pier, boat ride from Bang Bao Pier to Ao Salat Pier, and a drop off from the pier to your hotel in Koh Kood.
You can book tickets at your hotel, tour agencies, or online at Boonsiri’s website or 12go.asia. The ferry ride is around 1.5 hours. If the boat is not running in the low season, you will need to go back to the mainland Trat, then head to Laem Sok Pier to get another boat to Koh Kood.

There are few options to travel from Bangkok to Koh Kood. You can consider taking a flight from Bangkok to Trat Airport, then find the way to get to Laem Sok Pier to get the boat to Koh Kood.
Additionally, you can take a combo bus+ferry, which is a more affordable way to get to Koh Kood from Bangkok. Be prepared that the journey can take up to the whole day to travel between two destinations. I traveled from Koh Kood at around 8.30 am and reached Bangkok around 7pm.

Best ways to get around Koh Kood
Walking
You can’t explore the whole island on foot, but you can explore the surrounding area that you are staying in. For example, I stayed at Kama Siri Hotel. I was able to walk to the Ao Taphao Beach area, which is located within 30 minutes walking distance away.
There is a good restaurant near me called The Fisherman Hut, so I don’t have to walk far away for food. Several restaurants, laundry shops, bike rental shops, and local groceries, are within 15-20 minutes away.
Ko Kood is a big island, you can’t see much with just walking, but if you just want to relax on one area and one beach, I recommend choosing a beachfront resort that is close to the central areas such as Klong Chao beach. This will allow you to access more amenities on foot.
Getting around Koh Kood on a motorbike

Renting a motorbike is one of the best ways to explore Koh Kood island. It costs 250 baht per day, and the road is relatively flat, except for the southern part of the island.
I rented a motorbike from my guest house and was able to explore most attractions on the island, including the beaches, waterfalls, ancient trees, and fishing villages.
I recommend avoiding driving at night, especially the southern part of the island as it has several turns. Additionally, many parts of the road don’t have lights, making it not very safe driving after dark.
Explore Koh Kood on a private tours, songthaew
If you don’t drive, you can hire a private songtower to see highlights of the island. There aren’t any riding share services on Koh Kood such as Grab, Bolt, or InDrive. The price by Songthaew to get to one location is quite expensive, like 500 baht.
